My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

Book Description:
The difficult choices a family must make when a child is diagnosed with a serious disease are explored with pathos and understanding in this 11th novel by Picoult (Second Glance, etc.). The author, who has taken on such controversial subjects as euthanasia (Mercy), teen suicide (The Pact) and sterilization laws (Second Glance), turns her gaze on genetic planning, the prospect of creating babies for health purposes and the ethical and moral fallout that results. Kate Fitzgerald has a rare form of leukemia. Her sister, Anna, was conceived to provide a donor match for procedures that become increasingly invasive. At 13, Anna hires a lawyer so that she can sue her parents for the right to make her own decisions about how her body is used when a kidney transplant is planned. Meanwhile, Jesse, the neglected oldest child of the family, is out setting fires, which his firefighter father, Brian, inevitably puts out. Picoult uses multiple viewpoints to reveal each character's intentions and observations, but she doesn't manage her transitions as gracefully as usual; a series of flashbacks are abrupt. Nor is Sara, the children's mother, as well developed and three-dimensional as previous Picoult protagonists. Her devotion to Kate is understandable, but her complete lack of sympathy for Anna's predicament until the trial does not ring true, nor can we buy that Sara would dust off her law degree and represent herself in such a complicated case. Nevertheless, Picoult ably explores a complex subject with bravado and clarity, and comes up with a heart-wrenching, unexpected plot twist at the book's conclusion.

There is Kate with hair and Kate all bald; one of Kate as a baby sitting on Jesse's lap; one of my mother holding each of them on teh edge of a pool. There are pictures of me, too, but not many. I go from infant to about ten years old in one fell swoop.

Maybe it's because I was the third child, and they were sick and tired of keeping a catalog of life. Maybe it's because they forgot.

~; My sister's keeper (Jodi Piccoult)

My thoughts:
if you seen the movie, I say read the book. it's the same but not as much as you think it is.

I knew of this book for a while now, but i didn't know what's it was all about, but of course, I ended up letting it piled up in my TBRs for the longest time. Until the movie came....

I have a soft spot in anything that's being regard as a "spare part child". It has become an itch, or a peeve if you may, an issue this book has managed to portray.

I found myself trying to read it through whenever I could. This book comprised of first hand experience from all of the characters involved. The book centered on Anna, the specially engineered child by their parents, to be the sole donor for her older sister Kate, who is suffering from a rare kind of Leukemia. One day, she just suddenly said she had enough and decided to court to apply for Medical emancipation from her parents.

Personally this book is an emotional read for me. I got so absorbed in it, and I found myself feeling sorry for Anna through out the book. Regardless screaming somebody die already because i wanted to finish the book asap too lol.

Sumpah Bunian @ TV3 & TV9

This series is based on several folklores and legends there is in Malaysia regarding "Orang Bunian" or what people would called Fairies or interdemensional folks.

Hawa (the fairy princess if you will - played by Nora Danish) fell in love after saving a boy named Adam, after a slight mishap in the forest. since that day she grew up loving him, found him again after a few years and decided to give up her immortality as a fairy princess and marry him. Then there Azeera (Elly Mazlein - been a while since I've watched her act THAT way. kinda missed it) who happened to be head over heels over Adam and do anything (and I do mean anything!) to be with Adam. She even became a cat killer in this series o.0

*Spoiler*

nevertheless, this show only has 19 episodes and a sad ending. Azeera became insane. Adam was punished by God for backing on his swear. and Hawa returned to her family and became a fairy princess once more.

Laila @ Indosiar

Dewi Persik is the star of this sinetron. She is a wild child who, regardless wild, keeps herself out of reach from any random man. Except for Daffa. She almost marry him. Then the inevitable happened. Her father died in a car crash, instigated by his step brother who wants his whole fortune.

To save his family's fortune, Laila made a promise she will never get married, which crushed Daffa. But Daffa took another turn to try and help Laila defend her family from her greedy relatives, but trying to marry the sister instead.

This will be interesting.

Inayah @ Indosiar

If you have been keeping up with this show, you should already know this show started with all very avid muslim family, and also it was first called Hareem in it's first phase. Inayah is a young girl who is in love with the man called Aryo, whose love life became all jumbled and messed up when Aryo's father, Dorso; decided to marry her to settle her family's debt. Things get all weird out and awkward when Aryo and Inayah found themselves in a spot where she has become her step mother and he has become her step son.

True to theme (always), Inayah became the victim for very single bullies in the house, conducted one of Dorso's wives (he has four). Things escalated until two of his wives died, where suddenly the whole sinetron change it's whole them and turn into phase 2.

It is now called Inayah. I hate to say it but after watching Inayah, I just realized, she has became more stupid every episode! Whatever mess she ended up in is always because of her stupid self! Too trustworthy and too annoying stupid goody-two shoes! As for late she is now suffering from brain tumor, probably after her brain hemorrhage, that Visnu made sure to make worse, because he loves her so much and won't do anything to send her back to her family because he is afraid to be called a kidnapper.

*sigh*

Seriously, I can't wait to see the end of this sinetron =/

Jiran @ Indosiar

All to the dismay of hanging endings, if you have been an avid watcher of this one, I say everybody is very disappointed at what happened in the last episode of "Jiran" today.

If you're a fan of Titi Kamal, and haven't watched this show, you missed out another long sappy depressing series of hers after Muslimah. She played Jiran, The contract wife of Sultan (a king somewhere in Malaysia, another Manohara inspired story). I have watched this series since the beginning where the demented Fendy, drown in debt, decided to sell his wife to be a contract wife just to get a hefty amount to a a foreigner, unknown to him that this foreigner is a king.

Things gets all usual high-blooded, raging hormones as any other royal related drama there is. Nevertheless, it was a slow watch. I barely paid any attention in some days due to the slow run of the scenes. There was Noor, the gold digger who became Sultan's wife (much against his wishes, because she was pregnant with his cousin's child). Jiran got pregnant after she did a renewed virginity operation because Sultan isn't supposed to know she was married before, cause he wanted a virgin wife. Jiran was merciless tortured but his step-mother (who became his real mother in a later episodes) and Noor. Sultan did his best to protect and make Jiran happy by his side.

And why am I not surprise to see a baby born with a tail and have magical powers to heal people in this series, I don't know.

If you guys missed it, I tell you, Rivai (the cousin) died, Noor died after confessing she switched the babies. Sultan's father got himself free with his two wives by his side. And Jiran refused to choose either Sultan or Fendy, and took her children away with her. I seriously think, if Fendy didn't show up, there's a happy ending with Sultan. But NooooOOOoOOOooooo...

Tangisan Isabella @ Indosiar

For the past few months, I have been an avid watcher of this show called Tangisan Isabella, a sinetron, which I thought the idea came from all the Manohara fuss, where an Indonesian, Isabella; was pressure to married a royalty somewhere in Malaysia. She went from an abused wife to beloved wife to the victim of power struggles between the royal family. The first phase of the sinetron is done and over with where everybody in the royal family died except for the only heir who is also named "Isabella", survived by the king handing over the child into the care of this nurse caretaker, who brought her up as his own child.

Which brings the sinetron to phase 2. The tale of Isabella (the daughter)'s life. Today, This movie has became very annoyingly cropped out script from Kasih & Amarra, the modern "Bawang Putih, Bawang Merah". Where the young Isabella is a victim of child abuse, by her foster mother and foster sister. I am actually half expecting some fairy is going to pop up again, since they actually cropped up the same exact scene from Kasih & Amara in this mix.

Sudden Desire by Lauren Dane

Book Description
Tess Marshall has finally had it with her boss, spoiled but handsome actor Trevor Ryan. She quits and heads off to Lake Cushman for some much-needed vacation far away from phones, televisions and civilization. But Trevor realizes that he needs Tess and shows up on the doorstep of her cabin, demanding another chance. It's then that he realizes just how beautiful and sexy the woman he's had under his nose for two years is.

Their mutual attraction is incendiary and the next four days are filled with lovemaking and a deepening of emotion for both. They step into territory dangerous to Tess' heart. She knows she loves Trevor and can't settle for being his bit on the side but Trevor isn't ready for forever.

Tess knows what she wants and it's not to be a back door secret lover or second-best to Trevor's career or any other women. What remains to be seen is whether Trevor can get his priorities straight before it's too late and he ends up losing her forever.

Teaser:
“That makes me what? Your PA with benefits? It sure doesn’t make me your girlfriend.”

He stilled. “Is that what you want? To be my girlfriend?”

She exhaled in disgust. “Jesus, Trev, don’t have a stroke. I’m not trying to claim you after one sexual encounter. I’m merely using your own words and then pointing out the obvious differences between what you’re suggesting and what I am not.”

My Thoughts:
This ebook is sexy comes, sexy goes. It has been in my Sony Reader for a while and I needed a quick read. If you're looking for a quick reading fix that involves erotica, this is a book for you. The scenes are sizzling hot! I am pretty sure to read this one again.

The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 4) by Rick Riordan

Book Description:
Percy Jackson isn't expecting freshman orientation to be any fun. But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears on campus, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to diabolical.

In this latest installment of the blockbuster series, time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near. Even the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Kronos's army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop them, Percy and his demigod friends must set out on a quest through the Labyrinth-a sprawling underground world with stunning surprises at every turn. Full of humor and heart-pounding action, this fourth book promises to be their most thrilling adventure yet.

My thoughts:
Well.. after reading this series in a row, I realized I love this installment the best! Percy is facing real dangers now along with his usual band of musketeers (don't ask why I call them that). As the previous books have proof, this is a page turner. Being a great fan for the Greeks Myths myself, this has been a refreshing reads from the usual traditional stories, and of course refreshing how some of the stories are told, this series has became part of my favorite reads. The plot runs fast in this one and if you miss a couple of pages you practically miss the point. There are a also humorous part which I think, which only could be catch on by any Greek Myths enthusiastic out there.

I would recommend this to anybody who likes a semi-light adventure read. But I guess, young teens would surely love to read this one.
